Texture overlay 1.8.9

Sorry I am trying to make a texture overlay for 1.8.9 for armor and with optifine I use mcpatcher to see when an armor has an armor level and I would like for example a chestplate with protection 1 you see the original texture/texture you are using and in overlay then above that just the number 1 in this specific case for all textures
