Blockbench texture is bugged

so im trying to make a custom weapon and its not working. I followed one of the recommended tutorials. It should show the item in my hand as the block bench model but it shows a purple and black block.
If someone could can you fix my resource pack and walk me through what i did wrong?
I have spent hours doing this and im close to giving up.
