Beginner custom recipe question

Is there a way to use custom items in a recipe? For example I want to use this custom sword in this smithing table recipe but I also want to keep the default one, however my custom sword is basically just a normal diamond sword with a custom item model and properties. Can I check for custom models in the crafting recipe somehow
