why is the text black in a custom dimension?

i got 'a' custom dimension to work, but whether i use the generated world or a custom world, the text in it looks black like this.
i'm using fabric and qol mods. added in a text file.
here's the datapack for the dimension. it's just the copy paste flat land from the wiki tutorial, because generated versions for 1.21.8 weren't working.
is one of my qol mods not playing nice? or is it a dimension option? all of that text is supposed to be different colours.
