NPC ""skins"" for villagers

Hello everyone. I'm just wondering would it be possible to "replace" villagers with NPCs by making the villager invisible, and making an NPC be in the same place mimicking it's movements. Would this be possible with naturally generating villagers? 
What commands would I need to use to make this happen, if possible?
