Taking away crafting recipes without restarting server?

I’m making a datapack for my friend’s server that removes the mace crafting recipe after it’s been crafted once, but all this time I’ve been using the /recipe take command. I looked at the wiki and realized that all that was doing was taking it out of the player’s recipe book and not actually disabling the recipe. Is there any way other than to manually change the default recipe and then restart the server? I guess that will do but it would be convenient if I could just automate it with an advancement or something.
