What are the Limitations of `storage` Data Capacity?

It's me again--
I'm using NBT storage as an information log/telemetry/database system for my Data Pack. Are there any size limitations size or performance wise I should keep in mind? Like should I be splitting the logs up into multiple files? Keeping the .dat files under like 1MB for example?
