Copying component content excluding one

Related to my other question yesterday, I want to simply copy all the components of an item onto a new item excluding the "consumable" component. I thought it'd be easy because of the copy_components item modifier but it appears it isn't as versatile as I thought it is, and seems under developed at the moment. What better options do I have?
