Wall-mounted Lanterns

Hello,
There is a mod called Lanterns Belong on Walls that allows you to place lanterns on walls with an alternate texture that makes it look like it's actually connected to the wall. I don't want to make my 1.21.5 server modded, and was wondering if anyone knew a way I could replicate this effect through a datapack or resource pack. Also, if anyone knows of a good way to modify an existing Minecraft texture or create my own from scratch, it would be much appreciated.
