how to make custom smithing templates and how to make them usable in recipes?

i know how to make custom items and armor but I don't know the specifics for smithing templates, and I also want them to be used in recipes (and other possible custom items i'll have in the future) but I don't know how to go around that (I want to make something like a netherite upgrade, I don't want to make trims)
