[1.20.1] What does random sequence do, exactly; and is it necessary to include?

These are the questions I have in regards to random_sequence in loot tables: * What does the random sequence do? * Is the random sequence used by anything outside of the loot table? * Is it necessary to include? I understand this is a datapack-dedicated server but I've seen mods exclude the random sequence parameter, and the loot table works perfectly fine.
