Help convert stick to netherite helmet(protection)

I have a stick that is a crown, but I want protection 4 on it. Will item replace work? or crafting recipe? or should i increase armor toughness in crafting to be the equivilent of a netherite helmet? Please give ideas + values for them. Thanks
