Give llamas wings

Trying to give llama wings, I've got an item that has custom model data for wings. The part I'm struggling with is attaching it to the llama somehow. My best solution so far is to attatch it to an armour stand that's riding the llama. This has the downside of the llama no longer being rideable and the armour stand not matching the rotation of the llama very well. My only other thought is to spawn and armor stand each llama every game tick but this seems very resource intensive just for some wings... Any ideas of a good way to do this or something I missed?
