Structure Block Failure

So I’ve been trying to figure out structure blocks, and have been correctly putting in file names, and connecting blocks (as far as I know) but it isn’t working.
My question is: Do I need to go into the files to make the structure blocks work in the first place? Like to make a dungeon, do I need to mess with the files and code in the correct ways to make it work outside of the Minecraft application?
