Hoppers pulling items through magma blocks?

Is it possible to make a data pack that allows hoppers to pull items through magma blocks. Im playing a modded server and really just cant use hopper minecarts because of lag. Any help is appreciated. I've made 1-2 datapacks but never anything complicated.
