Request: guides/resources on datapacks

What are good resources for an introduction to datapacks? All guides I've seen are outdated.
Also looking for suggestions on tools that devs use to make their life easier when making datapacks.(I've installed language/syntax-mcfunction and MC Datapack extensions on vscode) 
I wonder if it would be good to use mcscript from the beginning or if that would hinder learning how datapacks work?
