Slow down daylight cycle

I was looking at the survivor's elegy datapack and really liked how it made the day longer. I tried looking at the datapack's code for a rough idea of how they did it, but it's a bit complicated to me. I also looked through the wiki page for daylight cycle but I still don't really understand how it works. What would a good way be to modify the speed of the daylight cycle?
