turning burnt trees into coal blocks

would it be possible to make it so that whenever any logs are on fire there's a high chance that the log instead of burning becomes a coal block, bonus points if it's possible to make said coal blocks not burn immediately although the idea of them being present only for a short amount of time also seems cool
