Crafting Recipes

When it comes to crafting recipes, to get custom items for them does it require you to use the minecraft item along with the unique tag of said custom item, or do I need to use the custom item's path? I've had a look around online and haven't found much. In the image attached, the items being used would in reality be a custom item using the flint/elytra/bone as a base.
