Is there a work around for commands that can only be issued by players for datapacks?

For example I wanted to use the new /tick command in a datapack however from what I can understand it can only be run by a player and cant be used in the datapack. I think recently I read somewhere there was a work around for these sort of command however I cant remember if it still worked or if it actually exists at all.
