How to make mobs aggro an armor stand

I'm trying to make an ability that temporarily makes you invisible, and summons a specially tagged armor stand that nearby mobs target instead of you for a few seconds. The issue is just the aggroing part. I was planning on using /damage by @s from the armor stand, but that just doesnt seem to actually redirect anger... I've heard of a snowball-related method, but is there one at all cleaner or easier than that?
